DR. BOB STEELE

It is with great sorrow and acute awareness of wisdom lost that I announce the passing of our club president, Dr. Bob Steele. Some of you may not have gotten the opportunity to know Bob well, but he was a generous, honest, and eminently good man who gave freely of his time and effort in support of our club and our beekeeping community.

Bob was a voracious reader and if there was a book or an article about bees, he’d read it. He knew enough facts about bees to fill a book of his own—some more useful than others—and he was always willing to share his knowledge, which you might have found out if he ever cornered you at a meeting. He touched nearly all of our lives in some small way with his generous contributions which helped facilitate the construction of the UF Bee Lab.

Maybe he was a mentor and friend, or maybe he just cajoled you into buying that extra raffle ticket that paid off in the end. To whatever extent we knew him, we were lucky to do it and his quick laugh and infectious smile will be sorely missed.

In accordance with the family's wishes the Apalachee Beekeepers Association, Inc. would like to honor Dr Bob's memory by making a contribution to the UF Bee Lab in Dr. Bob's memory.
