Meeting starts promptly at 6:30pm
Ah! the summer solstice is on the way. Gentle rains, warm days, everything is growing -- and the pests invite themselves to the feast. Jeff Pippen, Apiary Inspector from the FDACS - Apiary Division, will be on hand at 6:30 to discuss pest management. In tonight's meeting you'll find out about the most prevalent insect pests for beekeepers in our area. Jeff will share tips on what to watch for, how to control them and what to do when they threaten to overwhelm your bee yard. Pests to be discussed include:
- varroa mites
- small hive beetles (SHB)
- wax moths
- other pests and creepy-crawlies
Pest management is more than just knowing what to look for and what to do. The best beekeepers have an integrated plan that works around the bee calendar and rotates treatment methods. Hear what others do as well.
We will also addresses topics that have been posted on the Forum during the past month. If you have a specific question, email us before the meeting and we'll give you some advice. For those who do not wish to join in person, be sure to RSVP here so you'll receive the Zoom sign-in link. You must RSVP here by noon on the day of the event to have the link emailed to you.
