Finally looked at the Leon bees today, the first time since November.
We lost two at the EO. Looks to me like they both got robbed. The other three had laying queens and were very strong. I used the boxes and frames from the dead outs to checkerboard and double deep two of the hives. I double deeped the third box but did not checkerboard the frames. It will be interesting to see the difference checkerboarding makes, if any at next inspection.
All three of the home hives looked good. I checkerboarded and double deeped two of the three hives here. All hives are being fed 1.5:1 sugar syrup.
The double Deeping is to give the bees more room to grow, ease the swarming urge and make more bees and drawn comb to use for splits.
We’ll resume open hive inspections at 5:30 before our next meeting on Thursday 03/13, weather permitting.
