The Apalachee Beekeeper's Association has been chosen as the charity of the month by the Tallahassee Parrothead Club, a local chapter of the Parrot Heads in Paradise organization. While the Parrothead Club is all about enjoying a relaxing evening listening to good music, their primary mission is to "provide volunteer services to the community." Throughout the year, the Parrotheads take on such tasks as cleaning beaches, donating food, toys and more to local schools, and each year they host a concert to support the Alzheimer's Project.
Last night, the Parrotheads held the first of their April fundraisers to support the ABA at Tally Fish House. The entire outside patio area was colorfully packed out with Parrotheads, enjoying the beautiful weather and some live music.
The Parrothead Club leaders stressed the importance of protecting our pollinators, and how necessary the honeybee is to the food supply. Many members stopped by the ABA table to ask questions, show photos of bees in their yards, and find out more information about the club.
The club raffled off several honey-themed baskets and various other items to their members. Some of our own ABA members donated items as well. In just a short few hours, close to $500 was raised for our club!
The Parrothead Club is hosting another fundraiser for the ABA on Wednesday, April 16th, 6 pm, at the Corner Pocket Bar and Grill on Apalachee Parkway, near Aldi. Make plans to stop by and help support the ABA!
